About the Role

We are seeking a dedicated 8th Grade History Teacher to lead instruction in social studies and prepare students for high school-level coursework. This teacher will design engaging, rigorous, and standards-aligned lessons that challenge students to think critically about historical content and contemporary connections. The History Teacher will work closely with grade-level co-teachers, including STEM, SPED, and ENL staff, to ensure all students, including those needing additional support, can access and succeed with the curriculum.

Key Responsibilities
  • Plan and deliver daily history lessons that are academically rigorous, culturally relevant, and aligned to grade-level standards
  • Collaborate with specialists (SPED & ENL) and other content-area teachers to co-plan lessons, adapt materials, and support all learners
  • Use student data to personalize instruction and inform lesson planning and interventions
  • Provide small-group and individualized support, particularly for SWD and ENL students
  • Establish a classroom culture that exemplifies Emblaze’s RISE values: Respect, Integrity, Scholarship, and Effort
  • Maintain strong classroom management and uphold schoolwide expectations to ensure a safe, productive learning environment
  • Communicate regularly with families about student progress and build strong partnerships
  • Participate actively in weekly Friday afternoon professional development sessions aligned to staff needs and school goals
  • Collaborate with grade-level teams and professional learning communities to continuously strengthen instructional practices

Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree (required); Master’s degree (preferred)
  • New York State certification in History, Childhood Education, or related field (preferred)
  • Prior teaching experience, preferably at the middle school level
  • Deep belief in the potential of all students to achieve at high levels with the right support
  • Strong collaboration, data analysis, and lesson planning skills
  • Commitment to continuous growth, feedback, and advancing the school mission
